Two very famous Africans appear to have been talking. The result is the exciting news that Lupita Nyong’o, the oscar winning actress from Kenya has acquired rights to the Nigerian author Chimamanda Adichie’s novel, Americanah. What this means is that a movie of the book could be on it’s way very soon and it will probably star Lupita as the book’s main character, Ifemelu.
Americanah is the story of a Nigerian woman and her journey before and after she moves to the United States for school. If a movie is indeed made, it will be the second on of Adichie’s novels turned into a movie. Half Of A Yellow Sun‘s film adaption was released in the U.S on May 14th to much praise. The movie has however not been cleared for viewing in Nigeria because there are worries that the harsh historical context of the film will cause violent uprising in the already unstable country.
Hopefully there will be no such trouble with Americanah. Did you like the book? Would you want to see Lupita in the main role or do you think there is a better actress for the role? Let us know.
